Alchemy

Mixed media on board. Surrounded in a wooden float frame.

Alchemy is the transmutation of base metals into gold. This painting left me with images of test tubes and chemistry, and playing with different substances. And alchemy describes my art – the experimentation and transformation of my ideas and emotions onto a flat surface. Building layers of paint and then using different brushes, rollers and scraping tools to get back into the belly of this artwork, I felt like I was turning my thoughts into gold!

About Framing

Black wood with bronze highlight float frame.

Float frames sit AROUND the artwork, rather than covering over the edges. They give the illusion that the art block is floating within a frame, like a shallow open box. Float frames are typically used around stretched canvas or wooden boards. We usually leave a 5mm – 10mm space around the art, which suggests the artwork is “floating” within the box. Float frames can only be used when glass is not required.

When an artwork is on paper or surrounded by cardboard matting (the mount), it will need to be protected by glass. In this case a traditional frame is needed to hold the glass in place. At Hang It we have a wide choice of frame mouldings, matt colours and designs and types of glass. We are always happy to help you with your selection.
